Zebra's New FXR90 Ultra-Rugged Fixed RAIN RFID Reader

Zebra is starting off 2024 with the release of a new family of UHF RFID Fixed Readers – the Zebra FXR90. This new family of Fixed RFID Readers stands out because they are ultra-rugged, and manufactured to withstand weather exposure with a dual IP 65/67 sealing. The FXR90’s dual sealing IP rating means that it is certified IP 67 for temporary submersion, and it is rated IP 65 for dust and moisture resistance. Additionally, these readers can withstand a broader temperature range of -40° C to +65° C, which is 20° colder than typical RFID fixed readers currently on the market.

The Zebra FXR90 RAIN RFID Readers can read up to 1,300 RFID tags per second with a maximum receive sensitivity of -92 dBm and a maximum transmit power of 33 dBm. With an ideal RFID tag and equipment setup, the Zebra FXR90 RAIN Readers are able to achieve a maximum read distance of 100 ft (30.5 m) with the integrated antenna*.
The Zebra FXR90 Ultra-Rugged Family refers to the fact that this reader can be purchased in a variety of different configurations, based on the application’s needs. Below are the three configuration options available for this RAIN RFID Reader.
Zebra FXR90 RAIN RFID Reader Base Model
The base model FXR90 RAIN RFID Reader is available with 4 or 8 external antenna ports for the following regions – US, Worldwide, India, Israel, Japan, Tunisia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
Optional Built-in 1
Integrated Cross-Switched Linear Dual Polarized Antenna with 65+ Foot Read Range - can be used instead of external antennas for applications like point-of-sale (POS). The Zebra FXR90's Integrated Antenna Option has a 7 dBi antenna gain, a 72° antenna beamwidth and has achieved a 100 ft (30.5) m read range in ideal conditions.
Optional Built-in 2
Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.3, and NFC Tag for Tap-to-Pair.
Optional Built-in 3
4G/5G Cellular Capabilities for Data Backhaul and Management with CBRS Private Cellular Support, One physical nano SIM slot and one eSIM available, GPS location capability to enhance RFID tag read data with GPS coordinates.
Most of these optional configurations allow for flexible connectivity to network the best possible way for your specific RFID application.
In terms of the system, the FXR90 RFID Reader family has a Linux Operating System, is TAA compliant, and can be powered via an AC/DC power supply or via a PoE (PoE+) Injector. This reader has support for Zebra’s IoT Connector Interface, Network Connect, and MotionWorks Enterprise.
